WiCare Support Group for Widows and the Fatherless

Wicare was founded in 1993 by Ms Joyce Lye. Joyce lost her husband in a horrific car crash that left her in a coma for three days. After regaining consciousness, she was in a state of denial for a long while but slowly began to come to terms with her loss. She decided to set up a support group for widows because “it takes a widow to know a widow”.

Wicare Support Group was incorporated with the Registry of Societies on 23 October 1998. It also obtained the Institution of Public Character (IPC) status then, making all donations to Wicare Support Group tax-deductible.  In 2009, Joyce Lye was given the President’s Social Service Award.

Today, Wicare has more than 700 widow members and 1,000 fatherless children. Wicare provides widows an opportunity and environment with practical support – as they adjust to life after the death of their spouse.

In loving memory of his late aunt, Mdm. Irene Tan Liang Kheng, Mr. Tan Hsuan Heng commited $400,000 over 5 years to support their cause to support widows and fatherless children.
